This week's Tip is from Keith Falcone, Baseball Operations Manager and one of the top instructors at our Downingtown Academy. Keith starred as an All-Conference pitcher at York College in central PA and helped York to a Top 20 ranking in Division III as a junior in college. REPEATING A GOOD DELIVERY IS KEY FOR TOP PITCHERS!
One of the most common things talked about in regards to pitching is the ability to create a repeatable delivery. In order to do so, pitchers must be able to achieve a consistent balance point and hand break. One of the key areas I focus on with pitchers is keeping their head still throughout the delivery.

Head movement is usually a result of a few things that can go wrong during the delivery. So, if I a player can focus on his head staying still, it can help correct some of the other inconsistencies in his delivery. The pitcher’s head should stay level and still and should move in a straight line towards his target.
Any head movement – up, down, left, or right -- will cause a change in a pitcher's release point. So the next time you are struggling to throw pitches into the strike zone, ask yourself if you are keeping your head still. This will make a big difference in your consistency and control as a young pitcher.
